1000 KM poetry call!

Firstly, to anyone who reads this blog: sorry for not posting in ages! Things are in flux. Direction to be determined.

But in the mean time contribute to a massive political protest and work of art.

THE ENPIPE LINE – DEADLINE SEPT 30

What is The Enpipe Line?

The Enpipe Line is a long poem—1,173 kilometers of collaborative poetry. It is a long line. The idea is to go dreams vs. dream in a collaborative poem designed to engulf and overwhelm the structures that allow proposals like Enbridge’s Northern Gateway Pipelines proposal to emerge. The proposed pipelines are tar sands related infrastructure. It was thought that creating a poem 1,173 kilometers long would take years. In fact, it took weeks. The Enpipe Line is now close to 50,000 kilometres long.

Submitting Work

Contributions of any kind, including song, video, image and group-authored are invited.

New links; new discoveries

There seems to be an infinite number of journals and magazines out there. If you’ve been to Almighty Voice before, I hope you’ve noticed that I’m adding new links to journals all the time. Those lists on the right side of the page are getting longer and longer.

Here’s one I just found: Dead Gender. It’s new. Do I see a pattern here? Dead Gender; Poetry is Dead. It seems that the Concepts are dying before our very eyes. Is this what post-post-modernism is? Or, if I’m not mistaken, is that still post-modern? Anyway, bring it on. These are good journals. Check out the link.

TCR and ELQ are in stores

Have you noticed that there seems to be an unstoppable trend to abbreviate lit journal titles? Canadian Notes and Queries went to CNQ. The New Quarterly turned TNQ. What of the poor one-worders? Geist as G? Is Geist a quarterly? GQ? I hope not.

Anyway, two excellent acronyms have recently been released. For those who missed the memo, ELQ is EXILE literary quarterly with a fresh and tasteful new design. It’s nice – good paper, some graphic novel content, colour photography.

And TCR, The Capilano Review, has a wonderful issue out devoted to George Stanley, a late venerable Vancouver-Berkeley poet. You’ll find many of his poems as well as poems dedicated to him and his legacy.

Please check them out.

TODAY: Small Press Book Fair in Toronto

SPoT Spring Book Fair

Presented by Small Press of Toronto (outside event)

Something local, perhaps? The Small Press of Toronto (SpoT) Book Fair is just what the bibliophile ordered. The spring fair will feature zines, graphic novels, children’s books, magazines, chapbooks, and comics from local and cross-Canada authors and publishers.
